KING PARROT

Alisterus scapularis

Eastern Australia, from Cooktown to  southern Victoria. Also called King Lory. In pairs of flocks, conspicuous but wary, inhabiting heavily-timbered ranges and brushes. Usual call a shrill grating 'eek-eek-eek', can at times utter a soft musical whistle. Feeds on native seeds, fruits and berries. Nesting in a tree hollow, may be up to six metres below the entrance, October to December.
