Probosciger aterrimus

Also known as Cape York Cockatoo. Flies with slow deep wing beats, in pairs or small groups. From Cape York Peninsular, south to Rocky River, also New Guinea and the Aru Islands. A large black cockatoo with an enormous bill it feeds in the jungle on the kernels of large fruits and on grubs torn out of rotten wood. Loud whistling 'kweet-kweet', harsh 'shark', but many other notes are uttered. Nesting in a hollow in a tree, lined with masses of splintered twigs, thought to prevent water logging-August to January.
