Northern and Eastern Australia, also New Guinea. Common and familiar in noisy flocks, even in many towns and cities and unfortunately familiar as a caged bird. Frequenting heavily timbered mountain ranges, open forests, paddocks and timber bordered watercourses. Loud raucous ear-splitting screech, feeding on seeds and bulbous roots. Nesting in a hole in a tree, cavities in tall cliffs, notably on the Murray River. August to November.
